Meditaions on Music

Lalitya has received extensive formal training in Hindustani classical music beginning with Shri Vilas Khandekar with whose guidance she obtained a Visharad (B.A. in music). As a student at the Saptak Music Academy at Ahmedabad she was introduced to Ustad Shaukat Hussain Khan (son of Ustad Sharafat Khan).Under him she received exclusive training leading to an Alankar (M.A. in music).

Her meditations on music were greatly enhanced by the Bajan Smarat Shri Anup Jalota who was an impetus in her attaining musical insights of the highest level. His guidance, encouragement and constant endeavor to lead her to musical realms beyond the ken of normal experience have been a corner stone in her maturing as an artist.

Padma Shri Late Kalyanjibhai (Shri Kalyanji Anandji) also took her under his tutelage. He taught her the finer nuances of voice culture over a period of six years and helped her perfect her craft. She performed with him as part of his Kalavir Academy which comprises of illustrious singers like Sadhana Sargam and Sudesh Bhonsale amongst others.

Lalitya is fortunate to have Ustad Gulam Akbar Khan (disciple of Late Padma Bhushan Nisar Hussain Khan) of Rampur Sahaswan Gharana as her Guru to guide her in perfecting her classical repertoire.

Meditation on Music

‘‘Music for me is not only a performance or about singing a few lyrics. It’s a great creation of God. It’s only through deep meditation and hours of riyaaz, a true artist performs from the depth of her soul.’’
